When I was young my mom opposed the use of nicknames and insisted that I be called by my full name, James. When I first contemplated transition, I actually considered keeping the name James since Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively actually have a daughter by that name. I experimented with a few different possibilities including Stephanie and Hannah but ultimately concluded that I wanted to do my best to honor my mother by keeping as much of my original name as possible. For that reason, I’m using an alternate spelling and only changing one letter to Jamee.
