I am an Enrolled Agent and have worked in public accounting since 1997. One of my biggest concerns was losing the ability to provide for my family. I’m not a government employee protected by the Civil Rights Act. I am a small business owner and my clients can chose to leave if they want to. I was concerned that our small conservative community would reject me and that I would lose the financial security that I’ve worked so hard for.
Ultimately, I decided it was worth the risk and the response has given me heart! The people of St George are amazing, and I regret not trusting them sooner. That’s not to say there haven’t been incidents, but it’s been seriously less than 1%. My clients know that I am as professional and competent as I ever was. Plus, they can now brag about having the most fabulous accountant in town! I also need to give a major shout-out to my partners and our staff who have accepted and encouraged me on a personal level and performed beyond expectations professionally.
